Well. It isn't that the program is difficult to build. RST just keeps changing his mind and modifying everything. I'm sure that if someone set their mind to it, and was fairly decent at programming, the program could be written from scratch in a few weeks.

For creating something similar it shouldnt take 3-4 years. The most important thing about phoenix is its replacement ability, that shouldnt take too long to make. But as Human im completely lost with stuff like that :)

EDIT: Didnt see zach's reply I agree with him though

Let's try and put this in to some perspective....
ReVolt is 10 years old, and most of the breakthroughs have happend in the last few years.
RST may have taken 3-4 years but I doubt it was a full time single project, and as with most people, lack of positive feedback or comments makes finishing or finalising a project less important.
Also, RST is a bit of a perfectionist, so he is always tweaking and changing things, and they will still never be right, from his personal perspective opinion.

I just wish that this Pheonix R3 utility was available to all from an easy to access simple download, without any kind of registering, restrictions or waiting for personal usage approval, so that all the RV community could use it if they wanted.

Debating wether someone else could create something similar and how long it might take them is a total waste of time, as no one want's to commit that amount of time or mental energy into a project that has already been perfected elsewhere, right ?

Now before this thread gets in to a total RST bashing, can someone just pay him the ransom in royalties he want's so we can all reap the benifits. :D

This havent been a rst bash

But since you are so optimistic, try to get it. The odds would be about 1/1000 that someone could get it

Wrong! I am already speaking to somebody about the coding for something like this and seem pretty optimistic.

It isnt a rst bash but we must say things how they are. He has a programe that would benifit track making and he wont let the comunity use it? Can you imagine where we would be if ali had this attitude? It is not perfectionism it out and out childishness. So we must find a way to go around this problem :).

It is up to rst what he does with his things and i am fine with that and i wish him luck. There I was Nice :).

Hey! we are all optimistic, but the proof is in the pudding as they say. Let's hope this is not another bold statement that gets forgot over time without actual results.

RST will let you use it, there are just a few simple little Rules, Regulations, Restrictions and the usual homage that need to be addressed before being judged by a council of elders and foresaking all worldly pleasures, not forgetting the sacrifice of your first born. :D

I have some slight programming experience and could probably help someone tweak the program. I'd also be happy to host the entire project on my website. Almost like an open source thing. But I hope it doesn't get forgotten, like ManMountain said. Later dudes,
Zach

When you say "the program" are you refering to Skitch's possible project or RST's Pheonix R3 ? as that may stirr up accusation's, if you know what I mean  .

Of course I mean Skitch's idea. We should probably vote on some names shortly after the project has been started. To avoid all future confusion ;)

I Cant program fur toffee so all I can do is try to locate a programmer who is willing to do it.
Its is not about making bold statements that never come about, it is about being willing to try rather than letting a bloke who has no sense of community dictate what we can and cant make for the game!
All I am saying is that I am willing to try.

So, is there a programmer and is there an actual project or is it still in the spoken idea phase ?

Make no mistake a program like Phoenix R3 is a LOT of work. It's not that demanding as a programming task, it does nothing too difficult on that front. What takes a lot of work is hooking into Re-Volt's inner workings. In order to swap the instances around when Re-Volt is loading the levels, you need to observe how Re-Volt's state changes. Practically this means looking into Re-Volt's memory address and KNOWING what address to look for. And the knowledge of what addresses to look for, and what will change and how, takes quite a lot of patient trial and error type of guess work.

thanks arto for tinging the question,
i thought that the main part of the work was working together with the game being a non-open-source software, however i was not completely aware of that its so much about guessing and trying.

I believe there are several programs that can also assist in finding the changed addresses. I think Cheat Engine is one that could help... Maybe we could just start spamming programming communities :P jk jk.

Darksabre was/is known for finding specifcs within the RV code.
He found the moving textures found in the excelators of Museum 1 and the video game screens of Toy World, which he implemented in to the water section of CTR-Palm Marsh

I think he may be a good source of information. B)

I am sure ADX can help too, but dunno if he has time. :)

We need to E-mail him to send us the code.
If he is still available.

Just so we know what we'er talking about when it comes to an alternate to RST's program, check this out : Pheonix R3

Also, even though I've been told I may rejoin RRR, here is what I get when I try :

Just another sign of RST's paranoia ?
As I only use IE, I guess I'm not that welcome after all. <_<

It is because there is TOO many bugs using IE. Alot of users is very frustrated about this (me too), but thats how it is :(
