I fixed the Pentium 4 CPU (with Hyper-threading) lap timer bug (tuxabug)
on a new computer with this program: Win2000 Launcher 1.5.2 (works with XP).
Hyper-threading and dual core CPUs look to Revolt like dual CPUs.
This screws up the lap timer. With this program you can set Revolt to use
only 1 CPU (it does not affect other programs).
I have tried turnng off Hyper-threading in BIOS without luck.
This program seems to turn Hyper-threading off for Revolt only.
I put Lancher.exe on Desktop. ADD revot, Browse to revolt.exe,
tell the system on which CPU you want Revolt to run on (Procceser 1).
I set the Priority to 4. Once edited and Saved you do not have to
open the Launcher for it to work.

My system: Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2
Intel Pentium 4(with hyper-threading), 3.20 GHz
ATi Radeon X600 Series video card
SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio sound card
Revolt patch 0916.
Thanks to Sjampo for giving me this program.

I would be interested to know if this works on dual core CPUs with lap timer
problems.

That's damn excellent news... This information has to be added to RV House FAQ sooner than later.

hi guys,
hmm, well, i have a dual core (or what) and had problems before with this bug. if i run the game nowadays there are bad time results offline in a single race, like this: best lap 0:43, race 1:16 (at 4 laps) or 0:14, 0:25 (and so on) results at the end of a good 3-4 minutes long race.
i tried the util without success. i did everything in the same way as hil suggested. maybe it doesnt work on every system. i tried different settings like set it to proc 1 and to proc 2, and i set the priority to different levels.
does it work to other users?
greetings,
hmm-man

Please do human, and report if you find some settings that work for you!

Open Win2000 Launcher,
Click ADD.
Enter name as Revolt.
Browse to revolt.exe,
In the menu Tabs select
Procceser 1 (to fix Tuxabug),
Select Priority to 4 ( this setting I
don't think has any effect on Tuxabug)
Save these settings.
This fixed my P4 with hyper-threading bug.
Might not work on dual core CPUs, sometimes
the motherboard or other factors come into play.
Someone must code a new patch one day
to fix dual core CPUs or state-of-the-art technology
will pass Revolt by.
Of course you can buy a new computer with
a CPU that does not have this bug.

i understand you hil.
i have read the doc and tried many different settings without success. i have a p4 dual core with hyper threading. i dont really mind this bug, when we play online (its very rare nowadays for me) players have understanding and there are no arguments, everybody knows where he is in the race. i dont have time to make time races so i can live without correct time results. the fun is what counts for me. however fixing this thing is important and desirable, its much better to participate in a cup or in multi race with a correct technical stuff. i hope hil's idea works on many computers and later on the problem will be solved completely.

first off, what the heck is tuxabug?????

tuxabug is the bug that appears on the iddle of the race. it appears a "GO!" without a reason. that thing resets race time

ps: i fixed tuxabug by putting compability to win 98\ME

Tuxabug is a lap timer bug. It is caused by Pentium CPUs with Hyper-threading
or with Dual-Core CPUs. It can not be fixed with Compatibity change, that
only fixes WinXP bug.

So Tuxabug XP is what People Person solved? :P
I guess it's like Microsoft; computers XP- are better than Me+, and Tuxabug is better (at creating havoc) than Tuxabug XP.
I wonder if there's a Tuxabug Me?
And I like your avatar, David, but it's better with the sky backdrop like at RRR.

Hi, I can confirm that switching to Win98 compatibility mode fixed my race time bug in XP (the lap times were fine, it was the total race time that was screwed).

I have a p4 and I use win 98.
I have seen the GO! in the race
but I dont remember my time changing.
But I was trying win2000 when I saw it.
So that would make sense.
I like win 98 it works with all the programs
I need to make tracks and play re-volt.
I stay with what works for me.

Set the compatibility mode for Windows 94, not 98. Unless you are too lazy or ignorant to do as I say, that is.
This also helped me fix some (not all, but some) of the bugs I experienced in the Track Editor.
In short, put Re-Volt in its natural habitat. That would be Windows 94. I mean, put it in compatibility mode for Windows 94, not buy a whole new computer.
Well, glad to be of assistance!
Regards,
APM
