As most of you already know, RV uses 24-bit uncompressed .BMP's for most (all?) of its textures. This works well enough, but for some simpler textures, this method is super inefficient. Since RV also supports 8-bit indexed BMP's with RLE encoding, I took those less complex textures (those with at most 256 unique colors) and used this much more efficient method. Every texture in this pack is at least 3x smaller than the original, and some are as much as 64x smaller. If you get a performance boost, great, but the main intent of this pack is to save a little bit of disk space without giving up any visual quality.

For those using Kenny's excellent Track Editor 1.1, there's a pack for that too:

Enjoy!

This is great! I have just saved about 5.07 MB of disk space (ignoring the Thumbs.db file in gfx) using these optimized textures. Thanks a lot!

I suppose the font file included on this .zip does not work in RV versions prior to 1.2 update. Am I right?

Oops, I had neglected to delete Thumbs.db when I made the zip. Sounds like you got it figured out though :D

I'm glad you like it! I'm guessing that in the majority of cases the optimized font file won't be used, but it's possible that it will by default at extremely low resolutions for performance reasons in 1.2.
