I think they will not because old versions are untouchable when released, like you can't re-release a old version, especially when a bit long time has passed

What do you mean by "install sound changes"? They are a part of an executable file and can't be installed somehow.
I just meant that there were some changes which were reverted back or revised in some future versions as it's turned out that they broke something...

Holidays are coming and we're starting to receive new people in the online lobbies. :D

Yesterday we had an amazingly active day for those that were online, so this was a good opportunity to realize what's missing and what's broken in our latest Re-Volt Patch.

As everybody knows, the 0418 fix hasn't been integrated into the official 0330 package yet so some people are still facing the "crash after restart race" bug if they've updated from the official website only. Many people in the lobbies have asked me to request this integration to the developers long ago, I know, but it wasn't worth asking for it until other important issues get fixed too. I think it's about time now, because we'll need it to be ready when more people arrive.

These are the issues that are the most important to be fixed in order to bring some stability to our latest patch. I hope I'm not forgetting any!

- First and most important, the Spectator mode requires fixing. It's completely broken since a few versions ago and it's the most noticeable bug in the current patch. When you choose it, everybody appears standing still but shooting each other, and sometimes one or two players may move while the others don't.

- There is a bug that doesn't let you kick a player when he puts himself as spectator.

- There is a bug that is caused after playing a track normally and then restarting it (the same track) in Reverse or Mirrored mode in multiplayer. The guests see the whole graphics of the track disappear and sometimes they see sky only. This bug can only be reproduced in a real online race, I cannot reproduce it if there's not a 2nd player in my game because it doesn't happen to the Host.

- I think it's time to talk about Multiplayer Options menu, which as stated by the developers is still unfinished up to this moment. I think that the most practical approach to an Options Menu ever made by the RV Team was the Multiplayer menu introduced in Alpha 11.0501 (picture below). It made last minute preferences easier and quicker to be changed when you're in the Waiting Room. The current system, which requires the user to go through many menus back to common options just to change Number of Laps is a definite pain in the neck. I think you should reintroduce the mentioned approach to make our lives easier for the hosts, but this time put Pickups below Number of Laps and above Difficulty since it's more important than random cars and tracks, and maybe add Number of cars / players option.

Multiplayer menu from Alpha 11.0501.

- We desperately need a way to change things like laps and turn pickups on or off without quitting the game. An option to change game settings like Number of laps, number of cars as well, pickups, etc from inside the race.

- Improve the Host Migration so that when the current host leaves the room, he can choose wisely who is going to be the next host instead of just randomly passing the Host to an unexperienced user. Also, add an option to allow him to Terminate the game if he wants everybody to go back to the room at the same time.

- Due to the fact that the official v0330 and the unofficial fixes v0413 and v0418 are the current active versions and we are always in this situation of having many compatible builds in use, please bring back the Version detector that was removed from the Waiting Room probably just because of easthetics some time ago. Having it again will help us hosts and room managers detect causes of problems and see if new users have got the right version for them.

Version detector, at right.

- Add Firewall entries automatically when the Patch is installed or when the game is launched for the first time, like most decent programs do.

NEW FEATURES

- Add a feature to restrict car ratings in online races or add a way to better handle or limit the car choices of the players, to prevent late joiners to even pick Toyeca or their latest Ferrari when they are not supposed to, for example, in a game that is 'Rookie Cars only', or viceversa.

- Add the so requested no-collission mode for multiplayer, ideal for Best Lap Competitions and for Training.

- Add the possibility to add bots in Online Races.

Minors:
- Add an option to uninstall a specific custom track inside the game by pressing Del key on the selected track.
- I discovered that when you press Caps Lock in Waiting Room, TAB doesn't work. Therefore, you can't start the race.
- Fix the bug that makes your car appear with CHT symbol when joining a room set to random cars and the last car you had chosen was a custom car.
- About Objects and Pickups Off. Why are the basketball in Hood, the beach ball in Toy World and the straw ball in Ghost Town still available when Pickups are turned Off? If you turn Pickups Off, it's mainly because you want to play Best Laps or you want to have a deep training session, and when you want to play B3L/B4L, those extra moving objects shouldn't be there ruining your time. They should be disabled like the bottles in Market.

We should start discussing about:
- The creation of a Custom tracks transfer system.
- Online championships system.
- Support for team racing.
- Individual car skins.

- I don't care about offline, but I think the option 'Next track' should be added in offline races too.

Next Track option, as seen in online mode but not in single race mode.

it was never possible to kick spectators.
nothing bug: are you sure the guests have the track and the tracks have proper files?
host migration: how the game would know about who is more experienced? its fine as it is now: best connection.
*agrees* bring back these game settings.
version thing: it was always a dev thing in most 1.2 alphas
"manufacturer" races please (NFS shift reference)
please fix the weird "caps lock blocking keys" bug, if you had capslock on when you turn it off the effect is reversed.
next race in offline is kind of pointless you're trying to make the game pointlessly too accessible for everyone: it's fine the way it always been.

We're talking about stock tracks here. Yes.
Abc wrote:how the game would know about who is more experienced? its fine as it is now: best connection.
You perfectly know it's not "fine" as it is now. A system that gives the Host to any random user in theory decided by ping. A system which, in most cases, ends up giving the Host to a noob that doesn't know what to do as host and this is the problem that we always deal with when a host has to leave. I'm talking about improving the system so that the current host can decide who is going to be the next host when he has to leave, or letting him completely terminate the race if that's the intention. I'm not talking about the game selecting proper users by itself of course.
Abc wrote:next race in offline is kind of pointless you're trying to make the game pointlessly too accessible for everyone: it's fine the way it always been.
As I said I don't give 2 coins about offline, but that is not a reason for not placing the options properly in both online and offline, or are you going to tell me that you enjoy going back to Frontend just to move from Toys in the Hood 1 to Supermarket 2?

The new features sound awesome but I've put them separately because I recognize they require more work from Huki now that Jigebren has disappeared.

With the first 8 fixes is enough I think to make a new Patch worthy.

I have to disagree with you about moving objects, as it definitely can be considered as a cheat.
Whichever mode you want to play, the track should always stay the same. You should show your best at the exact same track, in the exact same circumstances. If you remove something from the track, it already will be a different track, with different gameplay and different difficulty level.

"No-collision" mode should also consider only PvP collisions: you can't collide with other players as you simulating "time trial" in multiplayer race, but you still should collide with other objects, even the moving ones!

Still prefer that "C!" stuff for this one as well. If these things will happen using this sign (C!), then I won't have any problem with that, but if somebody will use this function, that won't count as a valid RVR race (I will contact to Irck about this as well, but sadly he didn't answer to my report yet either).
This little thing can help me a lot when I check posted results in RVR.

It should be but it isn't and has never been. Tell me where are the bottles in Supermarket 1 and Ghost Town 2 in multiplayer? Where are the ABC blocks in Toy World 1 when racing online? They aren't. Track difference. Has anybody ever complained about this? Nope. Have we been cheating all these years? I really don't think so.

I'm just asking for a change that is logical and will be almost the same as now, maybe a little less annoying.

Why? Because I'm only asking to remove the balls when the user selects pickups off. When Pickups are On of course the balls should be on as well! They are fun! But when pickups are off and you're trying to make good times the balls have a luck factor to ruin your lap.

The movable balls are objects that can be moved by a player during the race and this can determine your luck factor for your 2nd lap. If one moves the ball in the first lap the others have a free way to make a perfect lap without worrying about the ball being too near. That is finding a way to get those movable balls out of the way and thus determinining your luck. That's what everybody does already.

But with the ball in Ghost Town 1 and 2 for example, it is a luck factor if that stupid ball moves as it pleases and gets in your way. It's not like a pole or a box that are fixed to the ground and will be always there. Objects like these have a chance of getting in your way and are unfortunately very near the best lines. Why should luck determine your time and not ability?

That is not logical at all, at least if you want to tie them to the Pickups On/Off option and/or for multiplayer only.

Either add it as a separate option or if you care so much about online time trial, add a new multiplayer mode for it.
The latter would also allow for a no-collision setting without having to interfere with the usual game modes (since no-collision makes the bomb pickup useless).

The idea of disabling extra objects like the abc blocks and the green bottles when Pickups are Off was brought by the developers themselves. I just agree with it since it is very logical that these annoying objects are disabled when pickups are off because the main reason to disable pickups is because of serious Training or Competitions such as B3L/B4L/Months. It seems that Huki understood this very well back in the day.

If the same that happened to the bottles and the blocks had happened to the balls, they would have been disabled from multiplayer a long time ago and we wouldn't be having this conversation.

If somebody cared so much about tracks being equal, why in all these years nobody has ever complained about the green bottles and the abc blocks being disabled in multiplayer? Guess what, nobody would like that to have those objects back, and for very logical reasons.

If brought back, the green bottle in Ghost Town 2 would be exactly where the perfect raceline is. Avoiding it or moving it would affect your time and would necessarily ruin one of the laps in your race. The same goes for the green bottle in Supermarket 1 in the shelves section. These objects can't be put back, in particular in multiplayer pickups-off races. It is better the way it is now where the bottles don't affect your performance in the whole race. Why not apply the same criteria to the balls?

The western tumble weed in the Ghost Town tracks, for example. These move randomly around the track as they please and I've seen countless of times people using perfect race lines and suddenly having one of those straw balls in their way. It is silly to have a movable object that depending on your luck might ruin your raceline inside a mode that is mostly used for Training and Competitions. When you're racing for fun it's one thing, but when you're racing for times things like that should just not happen.
Kenny wrote:Either add it as a separate option or ...
Do you like the balls so much in your races that you feel the need for them? There are no reasons for having the extra objects in multiplayer pickups-off races, a mode which is only used by online players who want to give their best in competitions. I would understand your concern if we were speaking about Offline races or if we were speaking about Multiplayer races with pickups On but we aren't. Multiplayer races with pickups On won't be affected of course, as well as single player races won't be affected. And also wait a sec... Do you play multiplayer? And do you play multiplayer with pickups off?

For host migration what matters is internet connection. its *impossible* to the game to know who is who unless there's a "pro" list.
about spectators: just noting; they should be able to be "touched" because it makes impossible for the host to bring them back.
no no no, no content-wise patches please. (we're trying to keep compatibility we all versions + spirit of the game) actually that change was done to reduce network usage, really, physics does "kill" network sometimes.
Again, RVR races should be a separate mode built in the game but that should be kept back until the day revolt has a RVHouse built-in.

Abc, Phantom already clearly explained what he meant about choosing more skilled player when host leaves: when you are a host and you leave, there will be a window with a list of all players in a race, asking you who you think should be the next host (probably, with an option to choose by internet connection, if you don't have any idea)!

Where did you get that from?

ABC blocks and bottles are always disabled in multiplayer, independent of the Pickups On/Off option.
Luckily we can look up why they were disabled in the first place:

Code: Select all

static long InitABC(OBJECT *obj, long *flags)
{
// Don't create in multiplayer (too many packets) ot timetrial
So there you have it, they specifically disabled them to reduce network traffic, not because they thought it would benefit competitive gameplay.
As to why they didn't do it for other moveable objects like balls and traffic cones as well to further reduce traffic I can only speculate, perhaps they forgot to do it or it was just those two objects in particular that caused too much traffic for them and they didn't want to disable too much.
And also wait a sec... Do you play multiplayer? And do you play multiplayer with pickups off?
If you had read my post in greater detail you would have noticed that I didn't object to your idea of disabling these objects in multiplayer but rather the idea of tying it as an option to the Pickups On/Off option (for multiplayer only).
This is a bad idea because it has a very specific implied effect that the uninformed user has no idea about.
Again, possible solutions for this would be either a separate option or a new game mode for multiplayer time trial.
You could also permanently disable those objects for multiplayer for all I care but I'm pretty sure that there are other online players who would object to this idea.

Suggestion for a new update

- Appearance of the 10 st ghost cars in the against the clock.
- Fixed a bug in the repositioning of the vehicle mode against the clock.
