That would be nice if it's feasible. Probably requires some co-ordination between RvR and RVZT. But in my opinion, if it makes sense, try to improve collaboration between Re-Volt sites - and not duplicate functionality.

Yes, that would need some coordination between RVR and RVZT, but i'm sure we'll figure that out.

I already added a track results page for each track. Currently those links look like [http://www.revoltrace.net/track/1228/canyon-run] and a track is triggered by it's id (the name is just for google). We'll probably need to change this if RVZT would make use of these urls.

I'm curious if anyone has created an alternate RVZT skin that they would like to see implemented. If you have created one, or would like to, finish it up and post a link to it here. Thanks,
Zach

Well, I only have the old CSS & HTML files. I'll continue on it this evening tho.

that's a very nice thing to hear about.

I'll see if I can create a style for RVZT, but i can't promise... homeworks and exams...

I was wondering if it's possible to create a length measurement. I mean with php:
[unzip .pan -> read as binary -> 8 bytes to waste, then next 4-byte: return as float -> close file]
[the return value / 200 + "m"]

I was just demonstrating the rounded rectangles, transparent menu and body content.

I hope people won't judge too quick because they like the old one

My try. How are you going to make the user-submitted style sheets compatible with the new RVZT, if you are?

Posted: 29 Apr 2010, 03:14

Well, for one thing, the CSS template has changed, and quite possibly could still change. I will take a few of the nice designs and convert them to the new format for the initial release of RVZT. Urne and kay, send me your files in a zip to my email. I'll play around with them and let you guys have links to check them out. Thanks, and if anyone else has a good style, please post a picture of it. Thanks again,
Zach

I have successfully implemented Urnemanden's design into the new RVZT. Kay's I think may be a bit too blue... :P Anyways, if you guys have any other suggestions, let me know. I was thinking about giving the news section (home page) an expiration. That way, only recent news (within 6 months or so) is displayed at one time. What do you guys think? I'd implement a news archive for older items if that's what you want.

Latest news and a news archive sounds like a good idea, but will it expire after date, or after how many posts there is?

I'm wondering if it would be possible to have a separate list for 'Latest Lego tracks' and 'Latest Extreme tracks'. Maybe also for 'Latest Original Cars' and 'Latest Repaint Cars' (and 'Conversion' maybe).

Or at least an icon to quickly differentiate them in the list, but a separated list could be nice for the following reason:
I have nothing against the fact that beginners enjoy to post their creation, even unfinished looking one (which are often 'Lego'), but I think that some tracks (usually 'Extreme') have a really higher level of quality, and deserve to stay longer in the Last track list (while they are currently pushed out from the 'Last' list by several less interesting tracks).

Of course, I don't want this to be seen as a segregation against Lego track, or repaint cars, but just as a way to better expose hard-working Extreme track makers or Original car makers...

I'm leaving that to where it will be somewhat easy to implement in the future, but I don't see any need for it at the moment.

The new RVZT is nearing completion. I hope to have this rebuild done in less than a month. Please post any further suggestions. Thanks,
Zach

Here's an URL for getting only extreme tracks, sorted by their date:

http://rvzt.zackattackgames.com/main/tr ... 1&sort1r=1

The track/car listing is quite flexible, so while there is not any direct link right now (I removed such long time ago as I thought maybe it wasn't that useful), it can be easily added. The new RVZT rebuild has all the features of the old + many new goodies, so no reason why a direct link couldn't be added when Zach has time.

Yes, that has already been implemented. There are many, many functions. Too many to list on the main website. Should there be a page with a sort of 'Site-Map' with (most) every available function? It could be used for bookmarking specific pages. What do you think? It would take me a while to compile...

Perhaps... and/or maybe advanced search page that people can use to create searches that we don't fancy putting into menus?

Will it be possible to PM/Contact people through RVZT or perhaps give a link to a profile on ORP or a similar forum? I also thought that a page where it's possible to see all recent activity/online players the last 5 minutes would be nice and practical. :)

I wouldn't like the feature. In fact, PMing someone is only for a forum.
RVZT is a special site, it doesn't need something like that. That's why in the info list are the links to the forums.

Perhaps we could implement an email feature, but RVZT will not support PM's. And the recent users might work out, we'll see.

What about a creation notification e-mail, when you get comments or grades on your track? I would personally find that useful as commenter, since I don't always feel that I reach the authors attention :)

EDIT: What will exactly happen when someone wishes to update their cars/tracks on the new RVZT? It would be nice with a page listing the last activity more detailed, than the list we got at the moment.

As in a 'History' of each track/car?

Posted: 02 Jun 2010, 02:51

That could be an idea as well, but I more or less just thought of a more detailed type of list, compared to the one RVZT already uses. For example we could through colors tells whether a track was submitted or updated.

Yeah, an ability maybe only for the user. It's not needed that everybody to know what you're favorite track. Not even the track owner.

I think he means something like a bookmark. He sees a track, and can't download right now, and he wants to favorite it, to can find it later. True?

The RSS feature was expanded to help with RVR, but not with the images. I may check into it though.

Related to the grade system again, I find it frustrating seeing the way the grade system isn't used properly, for example by giving high grades only to rise or lower the average grade because you think something else about a track than others do.

My suggestion to fix that issue is hiding the average grade until you either chose what grades you want to give the level or chose not to grade it at all. The track author will neither be able to grade on his own tracks at all.

The good sides about that is that the average grade never will affect the grade you give, simply because you don't know the average grade before you grade the track yourself (or chose not to grade it).

Bad sides is of course that you won't be able to change your grades to something else after confirming them. But I guess we are quite used to that, since you neither can change text in your comments already (which probably will be fixed in the new rvzt as well tho).

Urne, average grade can't be hidden to all users by default, it will make grades become useless...
Moreover, let's imagine I see a new track. With your system, I have to choose if I grade it or not to be allowed to see it's average grade. I don't know the track so I can't grade it yet, of course (but I want to see the average grade to have an idea of the track). Once I have tried the track, I can grade it, but with your system I can't anymore, because I have first chosen not to grade it... It's a bit inconsistent, isn't it? Or maybe I've missed something...
And also all non-registered users wouldn't be allowed to see the grade.

It has already been discussed... personally I think that one solution would be to have to leave a comment to be allowed to grade, and the grade would be shown along the comment.

Posted: 01 Oct 2010, 18:52
urnemanden
There is more bad sides than good sides of my suggestion, but grading while commenting will not fix the issue totally (tho it will prevent most users from giving 10 out of 10 without saying it or give an explanation). I don't know what else there is to do about it, it seems like you can either fix it too much or fix it too little in this case. :/

Hows the new rvzt comming along Zach?
