I've always used ZModeler2 for mirroring because it correctly mirrors things. I use it to align my wheels on cars I converted to NFS4, I actually mirrored them in ZMod2.

You'll have to reorient the objects and normals of the objects you mirrored. I normally do this part in 1.07b.

Set to 'objects' mode and select 'D' for Depth Axis Modify.

Then from the Menu Bar on the right, select 'Modify' and select 'Mirror'.

In the view you wish to mirror, right click on the object. For example, if you want to mirror the right side of a car, go into the right side view and click on the object.

After using 'Mirror' the Faces of the object must be re-oriented, as the Faces will only be visible on the inside of the object, so from the Menu Bar, select 'Modify' and 'Reorient' to accomplish that.

If you have created the right/left side of a car, you must convert that car to an object, then duplicate the object, then do the above mentioned operations on the duplicated object. Then you have to 'weld' the vertices to create a car free of any gaps in the mesh.

That's how I do it, there might be other ways, but it works for me. :)
